Google saved my day. Again.

Today I had some really strange problems with my Mac running Panther. Suddenly (after a crash) some apps won’t start up. First of all Proteus, followd by Stickes. Later on I could not use System Preference Panes like Accounts and so on. Because my machine normally has a long uptime, I couldn’t exactly remember what I changed since the last reboot. So I tried other accounts and so on. I was at the point to reinstall everything when I decided to ask my good old friend Google. And yes, there was a helpful link in the search results.
Prior to my system crash I used FontBook (the first time) to activate ITC Officina – and that’s the culprit. After I deactivated this font, I could start all apps and use all panels. Very strange.
It seems to me as if Apple should improve the search engine. A search on the Apple Support Site using the same keywords only revealed unrelevant docs. And of course, I will not use FontBook until this is fixed.

No time, no news

When Oliver recently posted that he has too much work to blogg, I noticed that I also had not posted for more than a month. The same for me, I’m right too busy to post.
Currently we (Marian and me) are working on KISD’s digital archive. We did a lot of research and built some PowerPoint wire frames and made the database model and so on but even after that we have enough to do.
Last week we found out that there’s a project at KISD that has a similar approach. We joined a meeting of the group and realized that they left their original project approach, from the movie and multimedia archive to a general form of archive. Too bad they didn’t ask us earlier… There could have been much more input from our side. You can come to KISD next friday and visit their public presentation of the results.
